Description
8×8 Matrix Mixer
8×8 routing, mixing and feedback matrix for Eurorack – 30 HP
The 8×8 Matrix Mixer in the CatSynth Classic-Line is a central routing and mixing hub for complex Eurorack patches. Eight inputs can be freely distributed, mixed and combined across eight output buses – ideal for modulation, audio, feedback networks and hands-on patch control.
With 64 dedicated potentiometers, the module gives you immediate access to every connection between an input and an output. Each input-to-output path has its own level control and can be adjusted separately. This supports not only conventional mixing and signal distribution, but also complex signal networks, parallel modulation paths, manual transitions between signal mixes, submixes and controlled feedback patches.
Despite its extensive functionality, the 8×8 Matrix Mixer remains compact for a full 8×8 matrix at 30 HP and is designed to be skiff-friendly. Its linear potentiometers provide fine level control for CV signals and work equally well with audio – ideal for patches in which routing, mixing and performance are closely integrated.
Why use a matrix mixer?
- Route any of 8 inputs to any of 8 output buses
- Direct control of 64 signal paths, without menus or switches
- Ideal for modulation distribution, audio submixing and feedback patching
- A central hub for complex yet clearly structured patches
8 inputs, 8 outputs – 64 directly controlled signal paths
The 8×8 Matrix Mixer allows each of its eight inputs to be sent to each of its eight outputs. Every crosspoint in the matrix has its own level control, allowing you to determine exactly how much of each input signal appears at each output.
This makes the module exceptionally flexible: one LFO can modulate several destinations at different depths, multiple CV sources can be combined into a separate mix for each output, and audio signals can be sent in parallel to different effects chains, filters, VCAs or feedback paths.
In larger Eurorack systems, the Matrix Mixer can replace several small mixers and signal distributors while also making the patch structure easier to understand. Signal sources remain connected instead of requiring constant repatching; the actual performance changes are made directly on the matrix.
For CV, modulation and audio
The 8×8 Matrix Mixer is suitable for CV and audio signals. With modulation, it provides finely adjustable distribution, complex mixes and simultaneous hands-on changes across several destinations. With audio, it can serve as a multi-channel mixer, effect-send matrix, feedback hub or creative routing tool.
The linear potentiometers are particularly well suited to detailed control and mixing tasks. It also works well with audio signals: levels, mix balances and feedback amounts can be adjusted directly and intuitively.
Feedback patching and experimental signal networks
A matrix is more than a mixer – it is an instrument for shaping relationships between signals. The 8×8 Matrix Mixer is ideal for building controlled feedback networks, feeding signals back through several stages, or creating complex interactions among sound sources, filters, delays, waveshapers and VCAs.
Every signal path remains directly accessible through its own control. Small adjustments can create subtle movement, while higher settings can quickly develop into dense, animated and experimental sound textures.
Classic-Line: spacious enough for control, compact enough for your case
As a member of the CatSynth Classic-Line, the 8×8 Matrix Mixer is deliberately more spacious than the ultra-compact Slimline utilities. Its 30 HP panel provides enough room for 64 controls and a clear, performance-ready interface.
At the same time, the module remains skiff-friendly and can be installed in shallower Eurorack cases. This makes it equally suitable as a permanent routing hub in the studio or as the hands-on centrepiece of a live system.
Typical applications
- Distribute several modulation sources across many destinations
- Create individual CV mixes for different voices
- Build audio submixes and parallel effects sends
- Create controlled feedback patches with delays, filters or waveshapers
- Use as a central routing hub for live performance and studio patches
