Description
Slimline ADSR Envelope Generator
Precise ADSR envelope generator with 3× timebase, LED phase display & manual trigger for Eurorack in 2HP
Bring your patches into focus – with an envelope that doesn’t just do “loud/quiet”, but carries movement, accent and structure through your entire system. The Slimline ADSR Envelope Generator is your ultra-compact dynamics tool when you don’t want to compromise on professional control in Eurorack: Attack shapes the onset, Decay sets the character after the peak, Sustain defines the level that holds, and Release determines how music fades out – from snappy-percussive to floating-cinematic.
Because an ADSR is needed “everywhere” so often, 2HP isn’t a gimmick here, but a real patch advantage: you get a solid, always-available envelope that you can use as a classic VCA envelope – or as a universal modulation source for filters, waveshapers, FM index, PWM, effect parameters and anything that reacts to controlled dynamics. In short: an ADSR isn’t a special effect, it’s the heartbeat of your expressiveness. And that’s exactly what this module is built for.
Why an ADSR?
- Musical dynamics: control transients, body and tail – instead of “static” sounds
- More expression per patch: filters, timbre and effects come alive with envelope movement
- Repeatable results: defined shapes instead of random level and timing surprises
2HP compact – full ADSR control without wasting space
In dense Eurorack setups, rack space is the hardest currency. The Slimline ADSR Envelope Generator tackles exactly that: at just 2HP wide it fits into gaps where otherwise only a blank panel would live – yet it delivers one of the most central functions of all. That means: you don’t have to decide whether you “quickly need another envelope” or would rather install another sound module. You take both: sound modules stay in, and dynamics control simply gets added.
Operation stays deliberately direct. Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release are intuitively accessible – so you can go quickly from the rough character (snappy vs. smooth) to the fine nuance (more sustain, shorter release, softer attacks). Especially live that’s crucial: an envelope is a performance parameter. You don’t want to search – you want to turn and listen.
Full control: Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release
ADSR is so familiar that it’s easy to underestimate how much sound design is inside it. A short attack can make a sound feel “hard”; a slightly longer attack can instantly make it sound refined and less aggressive. Decay determines whether there is a punch after the hit or whether the sound quickly tips “into the pad”. Sustain is the stage your sound stands on – from whispering to present. Release is what connects phrases: abrupt stopping, natural fading, or long, breathing endings.
With the Slimline ADSR Envelope Generator you can use these parameters as building blocks: for classic bass and lead patches, for percussive plucks, for pads, for FX swells – or as a modulation source that gives your patch the impression of “responding” rather than simply running.
Switchable timebase: S, M, L – one ADSR, three worlds
The key to flexibility is the switchable timebase with three levels (S, M, L). It lets you adapt the envelope’s time “scaling” without having to rethink your knob positions completely. You change the musical context – and your ADSR stays playable.
- S (Short): fast, precise impulses for percussion, plucks, clicks, snappy VCAs and aggressive filter pings
- M (Medium): the all-round range for leads, basslines, arps, dynamic filter sweeps and classic synth playing
- L (Long): long evolutions for pads, drones, tension arcs, ambient textures and cinematic builds
In a patch it feels like a “zoom” for time: you keep the character of your settings, but shift the entire shape into another scale. That’s exactly what makes an ADSR fast and versatile in everyday use – instead of being just “one envelope among many”.
LED phase display – see what you hear
A luxury that’s often underestimated: visual feedback. The integrated LED display shows you in real time where the envelope currently is – and makes complex patches much easier. When multiple modulators interact or you influence audio and CV in parallel, the LED helps you make timing decisions faster: was the attack really still too long? does the release hang on too much? is the gate triggering cleanly? Especially in live situations or when patching quickly this is enormously valuable, because you don’t just “listen and hope”, you see and control.
Manual Trigger – play, test, perform on the fly
The manual trigger button is the small feature that becomes huge in everyday use. You can trigger the envelope at any time without an external source: perfect for sound-checking a patch, quickly setting ADSR times, or adding spontaneous accents in a live set. When experimenting with new ideas it’s pure gold: you build a patch, press the trigger, immediately hear how your VCA/filter/FX reacts – and you can iterate in seconds without first patching a sequencer or a gate source.
Typical applications
- VCA envelope for bass/lead/plucks: from snappy to soft, always controlled
- Filter envelope for punch, movement and “talking” shapes
- FX and timbre modulation: shape reverb size, drive, morph, fold, FM index dynamically
- Ambient & pads with long timebase: slow swells, evolutions and wide arcs
- Live performance via manual trigger: add accents, test patches, play transitions
